Split Air Conditioners

Split air conditioners are just that. Split up types of units. These types of units separate the hot side or aspect from the cold side. This allows for the condensing unit to be outside, while the air flow, or air handling unit stays inside. This is typically how most central air conditioning units work. By taking advantage of the homes existing duct work, therefore, costs are somewhat limited when installing one of these. Lets take a bit of a closer look at this.

Homes generally have a central heating unit or furnace that consists of the furnace itself and all the duct work or piping that runs to the various rooms in the house. This type of air conditioner take advantage of this by inserting the cool blowing air ducts or pipes directly into those heating ducts or pipes. This ensures that there will not be a need for separate duct work specifically for the air conditioning unit. By utilizing this existing aspect, this can save much money in the overall cost of the unit.

Basically, these are no different than most window air conditioning units. The split system is just split into two sections and one is located outside, while one is located inside. This allows the condenser to cast away the heat through condensation that freely falls to the ground or freely evaporates into the air, thus ensuring maximum cooling efficiency.

One of the best things about this type of unit is that the noise from the cooling condenser fan is not a factor because it remains outside. This is probably the biggest decision maker for many who do decide to use this type of unit.

On the other hand, depending upon the size required in order to cool the area, the condenser can be rather large. This is normally not the case for a home based unit though. This will be the case for a larger building or a business that is say, in a mall. These condensers are the one's that you see on the roofs of stores, restaurants, and the like. Therefore, if you choose to use one of these style of units, the very same condenser will be located somewhere close to the outer wall of you house.

However, with a larger style of building, the air handler and condenser pipes have a tendency to be too long and will cause the compressor to have lubrication problems. Therefore, when considering this type of system, be aware of this aspect and verify with a knowledgeable cooling technician as to whether or not to consider this type of system.

So, split air conditioners have pros and cons just like anything and will need to be considered beforehand to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
