Small Air Conditioners
There are many small air conditioners on the market today, but not all are the same. There are some distinct differences in each and every one that will need to be considered.
Before we explore some of those differences, lets look at a couple of associated items that will need to be considered by anyone that is in the market for an air conditioner. These are things such as how large an area does one want to cool. This is probably the largest decision choice that a person would be required to make during the purchasing concept. There are many different sized or rated air conditioning units on the market, and all deal with the BTU aspect. BTU, or British Thermal Unit, will dictate this. Therefore, one should be aware of what this means. It means that a certain amount of air will be cooled by this specific unit and anything over that will be ineffective. Basically, the specific unit will only cool a certain amount of air. Therefore, figure out the prospective rooms total square footage and seek a unit that will cool that certain amount of square footage.
These types of units are primarily used as window units and are usually concentrated on a bedroom cooling aspect. This saves money in the long run, when those that have a central unit also, will be able to turn off the central unit at night and only run a small window unit in order to achieve the same cooling effect.
Of course, there are other aspects that may need to be considered also. Things such as whether the unit is quieter than the next. This noise ratio will certainly be concern if one is intending to sleep in the room that the unit is in. Some are louder than others and this, along with the BTU rating would be a concern for most. However, there are those that will be able to sleep regardless of the fan noise and for those, it would probably not be an aspect that they would have to consider.
Energy Star ratings is another aspect that most would want to consider. This can be the difference between saving on a utility bill or not. All energy star compliant units are clearly marked and there rating should be considered when purchasing one. But, be aware, not all are energy star compliant and one should be aware of this also.
So, when considering the purchase of small air conditioners, be a smart shopper and explore the fine details of each and every one before purchasing. Consumer Reports is a wonderful place to begin one's research and can be trusted for proper information. By considering these relatively few items that specifically pertain to these type of units, one can certainly save money, not only in overall unit cost, but also in utility bill aspects.
