Window Air Conditioners
Window air conditioners can be a very good way to cool a room or set of rooms, as well as be a wonderful way to conserve and save money on the utility bill aspect when used in conjunction with a central air conditioning unit.
These window units have both ups and downs just as with anything. Therefore, lets explore some of these variables.
The efficiency factor, as mentioned earlier can increase drastically and effectively when used with a central unit. This will enable one to shut down the central unit at night and simply use the window unit as a cooling subsidiary. This in turn will save money on ones overall utility bill in the long run. However, on the other side of the spectrum, the noise factor may cause some folks a bit of sleeping trouble. The fans in these window units are not silent. Some are quieter than others. Nonetheless, there is a noise factor that will need to be considered with these.
Another downfall is that of window blocking. These type of units will need to sit in a window and will definitely block any light that the window would provide. This has a tendency to bother some people also.
Now, lets take a look at some of the overall factors that will dictate what and which type of air conditioner one would want to purchase.
There are a few specific items that one would want to consider. One, of which, is that of BTU output. Consider the room size or the total cooling area that one would want to cool and buy an air conditioning unit that would correspond to that size. This will ensure that the unit would not be overworking and decreasing efficiency.
The efficiency of each unit is listed with each in the form of energy star compliance. This will tell a person approximately how much money a person can expect to save in the long run when using that specific type of air conditioner. This can be the largest factor as to which one to purchase. Many people only look at the price when buying and air conditioning unit. This is a mistake. They may be purchasing a unit that is very inefficient and not rated for the room or area size that they are looking for. Of course, they may feel that they are saving money by getting the unit at a certain price but, they are not considering that they will be paying more in overall electricity over time. The unit they buy may not be able to keep the room cool and will be required to work harder and run longer in order to keep up. This means more utilities used, therefore, more bill to pay.
So, when considering window air conditioners, there are many to choose from, however, not are are the same.
